Description and Table of Contents

Description

This volume contains a collection of 23 documents that introduce students to some of the basic issues of Progressive Era social reform in the American South. A comprehensive introduction provides the historical background for the documents, placing them within the context of Progressive era America. The initial document, Walter Hines Page's article "The Rebuilding of Old Commonwealths", presents a manifesto for reform in the turn-of-the-century south and is followed by six sections of brief documents including articles, speeches and reports.
