内容説明
The theoretical framework of the book spans the three prevailing paradigms of economic development - neo-classical, institutional and cultural - by embedding alternative operationalizations of the concept of culture within an endogenous growth model. It explores the impact of cultural values on rates of economic growth for a cross-section of nations, from 1970 to 1985. By focusing on the cultural dimensions of 'human capital', rather than merely on the embodied knowledge and skills as framed in the endogenous growth model, an augmented endogenous growth model was used to probe into more subtle human capital implications for economic development. The book specifically aims to answer such broad but important questions such as 'what kind of cultural values are related to what aspects of economic development?' and 'How might different institutional arrangements and levels of development play a channelling role?' Eclectic and exploratory, the book provides a coherent framework to think about the relationship between culture and economic development.
