Description and Table of Contents

Description

This collection of contemporary readings focusses on current social and cultural issues and includes chapters on: the position of women in the two Germanies, the situation of 'guestworkers', Jews living in today's Germany, and travel on foot through Germany's different regions. The selections are glossed on facing pages and are followed by two sets of interpretive questions especially aimed at developing students' communicative skills by involving them in debate about various topical issues. A wide range of genres, from the interview and documentary journalism to poetry, short story and memoir provides formal variety, allowing the students to experiment with these forms in their own writing, while sharpening their reading and listening skills in a dialogic context.
