"Myasthenia Gravis" pPresents the latest research findings about myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease of the neuromuscular junction and of various congenital myasthenic syndromes. The book discusses the physiology and molecular biology of neuromuscular transmission and pathophysiology of myasthenia gravis, myasthenic syndromes, and the influence of toxins and drugs on neuromuscular transmission. The immunopathology of receptor diseases in general, and myasthenia gravis in particular are covered. Clinical descriptions are presented, including tests designed to provoke clinical signs of the disease. The text also examines the histology of normal neuromuscular synapses, including the effects of development and ageing, denervation, and reinnervation. Therapies in myasthenia are presented, including anticholinesterases, thymectomy, conventional immunosuppressive therapy, plasma exchange and new immunosuppressive therapies.
