内容説明

The Newly Industrialising Countries (NICs) of Asia (which comprise Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan) have been some of the fastest growing economies in the world since the 1960s. This book presents a comparative analysis of these remarkable achievements in the light of analytical debates in the development economics literature. The factors which explain their emergence and the role played by Japan in their rapid development are analysed. The prospects of the Asian NICs in the increasingly hostile international economic environment of the 1990s and beyond are also examined. The second edition of this book has been revised and expanded to take account of the most recent developments affecting the Asian NICs, and to include the most recent statistical data that is available. Written primarily for university students studying development economics, this book will be of interest to those in business and government who wish to understand the development of the Asian NICs. A unique feature of this book is the availability of a computer-aided teaching program designed to help students understand the material in this book and to enable teachers to set up their own teaching materials.
