This text features essays by scholars of Mexican cinema, including Tomas Perez Turrent, Aurelio de los Reyes, Carlos Monsivais and Emilio Garcia Riera. It includes studies of the Mexican work of Luis Bunuel, the surreal dramas of Felipe Cazals and Aruturo Ripstein, and the contemporary international successes of Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, amongst others. The book contains notes on 150 films, a guide to the major personalities (including directors and stars), together with filmographies and a chronicle of Mexico's political, cultural and film histories this century.
