内容説明

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796-1875) has been called the most important French landscapist of the 19th century. Working long before the Impressionists, he painted mood-filled views and luminous plein air studies that record the quality of a specific place and time. Published in his bicentenary year to accompany a travelling exhibition bringing together 163 of Corot's finest paintings, this book contains essays which chronicle the artist's life, beginning with his traditional art education in Italy. It also provides a detailed art-historical commentary with each painting catalogued, including essays on forgeries and collectors.
