Description
Els 4 Gats was a celebrated tavern that served as the main meeting place for avant-garde artists in turn-of-the-century Barcelona. It was the venue for the young Picasso's first one-man exhibition. This exhibition, comprising primarily portraits of his friends and acquaintances, launched Picasso's career. Picasso continued to frequent Els 4 Gats until the tavern closed in 1903. This text publishes Picasso's work from the Els 4 Gats exhibition, along with other paintings and drawings from this pivotal and unfamiliar period in his early artistic life. It served as a catalogue for an exhibition at the Pablo Museum in Barcelona (Autumn/Winter 1995/1996)
