Description
The subject of emerging infectious diseases has recently captured international attention with the identification of previously unrecognized human pathogens and the arrival of multiple drug resistant forms of more conventional agents. Examples of recently recognized or emerging infectious diseases include hepatitis C, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, ebola virus infection, human ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, babesiosis, cat-scratch disease and multiple drug resistant tuberculosis. PCR Applications for Emerging Pathogens is a supplement to the ASM publication, Diagnostic Molecular Microbiology, which was published in 1993. This supplement is designed to provide a technological update for clinical microbiologists, and to enable practical application of some of the most powerful new technologies. Together with Diagnostic Molecular Microbiology this new manual will provide all the theoretical and practical information you need to operate a state of the art facility for doing molecular diagnosis of infectious diseases.
