Goethe's Wilhelm Meister and His Brothers have been studied extensively, at the expense of Mignon and Her Sisters. These essays by diverse hands explore the function and meaning of Mignon within the novel as well as the reception of this enigmatic figure in romantic and postromantic literature. As the various contributions to this edition prove, this topic lends itself well to the application of several approaches, traditional ones as well as more recent methodological principles such as feminist and psychological and medical viewpoints. Goethes Wilhelm Meister und seine Brueder hat man sehr intensiv, aber auf Kosten Mignons und ihrer Schwestern untersucht.
