Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book pairs great works of art from all periods with poetry and prose derived from just as broad a spectrum. All the realms of the animal kingdom are represented from jungle to ocean to sky, meadow and hearthrug. For good measure a few animal oddities and mythical beasts are included, such as the unicorn and the unlucky suitors whom Circe turned into swine. Artists represented include Durer, Delacroix, Titian, Rubens, Manet, Renoir, Gauguin, Bonnard, Boucher and Rosseau, and all challenge the way we perceive our fellow creatures. Some of the literature featured comes from as diverse a range as Milton, Blake, Yeats and Lawrence.
