Features 15 case studies of different spaces that have been recycled as restaurants, ranging from the Peabody House in Boston to a bus station in Little Rock, a rustproofing garage in Chicago and a car dealership in Santa Cruz. Adaptive re-use is particularly suited to restaurants, which look for individuality and unusual environments to attract customers. Each case discusses how the space was originally used, what was done to convert it, and how it looks now. Each of the participating architects is interviewed for details about the problems of reconstruction, their individual approach to the design and their thoughts about the process. Showcased in the back of the book are additional examples from around the country, a bibliography geared to the professional, and a directory of organizations involved in restoration and re-use. This book is aimed specifically at architects, interior designers and anyone with an interest in architecture.
