内容説明

This text is about the maternal-foetal interactions during pregnancy that depend on cell surface structures termed HLA. When foreign to the host, HLA stimulate massive graft rejection responses. There is little if any evidence for such a response at the maternal-foetal interface. This may be due to special controls on the expression of HLA in placentas and their associated membranes, which sequester the embryo from maternal immune cells. This book provides the reader with an understanding of HLA and its potential to stimulate graft rejection, describes recent experiments that have provided new insights into HLA gene selection and regulation during development. It discusses the potential implications for fertility on healthy women as well as patients with immune disorders. Standing orders placed before december 31st 1996, will receive a 10% reduction off the list price of all volumes published within the series, between the order date and December 31st 1997. This offer is valid from June 1996 on a firm order basis only.
