Description and Table of Contents
Description
From 1 April 1995 NHS Supplies were involved in the purchasing arrangements for over #2 billion of goods and #0.5 billion of services bought annually by the NHS. Of this total, around #1.2 billion of goods and #0.5 billion of services are supplied directly to the NHS by commercial suppliers under contracts negotiated with NHS Supplies. NHS supplies themselves buy directly goods worth around #470 million in 1994-95, which they sell to their customers through their warehousing and distribution service. In this report the National Audit Office examines: the progress made by NHS Supplies in improving supplies services to the NHS; the extent of customer satisfaction with NHS Supplies' services and the scope for further savings and improvements. It then makes conclusions and recommendations on these three aspects.
