内容説明

Which Compound? Which Route? is an exercise aimed at students on post-16 chemistry courses, and is designed to help them follow the decision making process by which new drugs are designed. They choose a market area, look at existing products, select a new compound to synthesise, and work out the best synthetic route for commercial production, taking into account yield and environmental considerations. Students can work through the exercises on their own or as part of a team. The exercise is designed so that students move back and forth through the tasks depending on the decisions they make. A hypertext disk version of the book in Windows format is included, along with browsing software. This book arose out of an exercise for students visiting the research laboratories of Glaxo Wellcome plc, and it has benefited from the professional input of Glaxo staff. Although aimed at students on post-16 courses, this book will also be of particular interest to students following vocationally oriented courses, especially the advanced GNVQ.
