内容説明

This text examines the contemporary reaction in England to Thomas Hobbes, with a particular focus on his materialism and moral philosophy. It argues that most scholars have ignored this reaction to Hobbes and thus have failed to realize the importance of the historical context against which the analysis of Hobbes's ideas can be measured. The book includes discussion of Hobbes's relation to More, Cudworth, Bramhall and Glanvill, and a bibliography of anti-Hobbes works. The book is part of Thoemmes' "Key Texts" series which are facsimile paperback editions of books which have been unavailable. The series gives particular emphasis to less popularized works of major thinkers in the history of ideas. Classic monographs are also featured.
