Description
A combination of baseball skills and coaching philosophy for beginning youth baseball coaches. This text explains the coach's primary responsibilities, tools required to be an effective coach, communication skills necessary for coaching young athletes, steps to planning and teaching sport skills, methods for preventing and caring for injuries, and how to protect against legal liability. In addition, the text describes how to teach baseball techniques and strategies; explains how to detect and correct common errors made by young baseball players; outlines 27 drills that will develop players' skills and teamwork; illustrates offensive and defensive team tactics, including signalling plays, baserunning strategies, relays and cutoffs, and pitching strategies; and addresses special considerations for T-ball. The book's helpful appendixes furnish a sample season plan for beginning baseball players and resources for working with children with disabilities.
