Description and Table of Contents
Description
Based on the author's childhood in Litchfield (Poganuc), Connecticut, Poganuc People (originally published in 1878) is filled with local color, vividly portrayed characters, and rich descriptive passages. Town meetings, heated political discussions at the village store or over tea in an aristocrat's parlor, Fourth of July celebrations with attendant patriotic oratory, and daily life in the parsonage of the village minister dominate this autobiographical novel.
