This multi-authored text provides a wide-ranging overview of the problems of fractucres in the ageing population. The specific assessment and management of fractures are concisely described, with each chapter devoted to injuries in relation to the major joints of the upper and lower limbs. The epidemiology and biomechanics of these injuries are described in detail. Further chapters focus on the prevention of injury, anaesthesia in the elderly, non-operativemanagement of fracture, fractures of the axial skeleton, management of soft tissues, the essentials of internal fixation in this group, the problem of metastases and rehabilitation and amputation. Each author has special expertise in their particular field. The text is illustrated throughout with appropriate diagrams, X-rays and clinical photographs.
