Description

Nitrogen heterocycles are arguably the most important group of heterocyclic organic compounds occurring in nature, associated as they are with both respiratory (e.g. haemoglobin) and photosynthetic (e.g. chlorophyll) pigments. The chemistry of nitrogen heterocycles continues to be an active area of research in organic chemistry, while continuing to attract significant interest from the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. This series aims to provide contributions on topics of interest to those active in the field, while highlighting those areas of wider interest to the organic, bio-organic and biochemical research communities. Volume 2 contains articles on four-, five- and six-membered nitrogen heterocycles. It includes chapters on such topics as nucleophilic addition reactions to the -carbon in -lactams (azetidinones), pyrroles and pyridine chemistry.

Table of Contents

  • Nucleophillc addition to the -carbon of -lactams, P.R. Guzzo & M.J. Miller
  • chemical synthesis of porphobilinogen and studies of its biosynthesis, R. Neier
  • synthesis and cycloaddition reactions of iso-condensed heteroaromatic pyrroles, C.K. Sha
  • azacyclopentadienyl metal compounds - historical backgrounds and recent advances, C. Janiak & N. Kuhn
  • recent developments in the synthesis of marine pyridoacridine alkaloids, A.M. Echavarren
  • alkaloid synthesis using 1-acylpyridinium salts as intermediates, D.L. Comins & S.P. Joseph.

Description

Nitrogen heterocycles are arguably the most important group of heterocyclic organic compounds occurring in nature, associated as they are with both respiratory and photosynthetic pigments. This volume is the first in a series of research sources on the subject and covers aspects of synthetic and reactive chemistry of various nitrogen heterocycles, including pyrroles, porphyrins, carbazoles and indoles and their derivatives.

Table of Contents

  • Reaction of metal stabilized carbenoids with pyrroles, H.M.L. Davies
  • Synthesis of porphyrins with exocyclic rings from cycloalkenopyrroles, T.D. Lash
  • palladium-catalysed coupling reactions of indoles, A.R. Martin and Q. Zheng
  • cycloaddition reactions of indole derivatives, U. Pindur
  • transition-metal mediated synthesis of carbazole derivatives, H.J. Knolker
  • synthesis of [b]-annelated indoles by thermal electrocyclic reactions, S. Hibino and E. Sugino
  • total synthesis of (-) and ent(-) duocarmycin SA, D.L. Boger.
