内容説明
Astrocytes and microglia function throughout the period of development of the nervous system and during the lifetime of the healthy adult to protect the integrity of the brain. As surveillant cells, they intervene in acute destabilizing situations to repair small traumas and protect against imbalances. This publication is an assembly of treatises on topics related to the role of astrocytes, microglia, and their associated products in various pathologies, many of which affect development. Subjects covered include assessments of the pathologic and protective functions of astrocytes and microglia during development, in normal adult brain homeostasis, and during trauma and disease. It will serve as a valuable and comprehensive reference work for neuroimmunologists, neuropathologists and neurobiologists.
