Description and Table of Contents

Description

A critical analysis of British education in the light of the current debate. The author attacks many of the government's plans, particularly those relating to the City Technology Colleges, the promotion of "parent power" and the intention to remove research resources from some universities. She suggests that a common policy for the entire education system is needed with fundamental reforms and outlines her plan for tackling the growing crisis. Mary Warnock was Headmistress of Oxford High School from 1966 to 1972 and is now Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge. She was a member of the Committee of Inquiry into Validation of Public Sector Higher Education, and in 1985 gave the Richard Dimbleby Lecture "Teacher Teach Thyself".
