Which are the main regulatory bodies dealing with television broadcasting in Europe? What are their status and competences? What are their supervisory and regulatory powers? The aim of this book is to contribute towards a greater understanding of the status and areas of competence of broadcasting regulatory bodies in Europe. A country-by-country analysis has been conducted in 35 countries. The legal framework for each national broadcasting system is presented. The control over the means of distribution (for example, terrestrial frequencies, cable and satellite) is described. Each regulatory body is then dealt with in detail. This publication should be a useful reference not only for those directly involved in broadcasting regulation, but also for managers of media companies, politicians, policymakers, media academics and researchers.
