Description
Providing relevant neurosurgical techniques, this text reviews the basics of the molecular biology of the central nervous system and the alterations of this biology in disease. Also provided are potential treatments based on an understanding of the molecular processes. The contributors address these main areas of importance for neurosurgeons: a discussion of standard molecular biologic techniques along with the basic principles and strategies of gene therapy; an in-depth look at the central nervous system, and the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells into mature central nervous system cells; a presentation of neuro-oncology from a molecular point of view; information regarding the molecular basis of cerebrovascular disease; and a review of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the pathology and treatment of central nervous system diseases.
