内容説明
The "Amorum Emblemata" of the artist and humanist Otto Vaenius is not only the largest, but, from a European point of view, also the most influential collection of love poems ever published. It left many traces in literature as well as in the visual arts, and it was published in several combinations of languages. This book reproduces in facsimile the edition with the Latin, English and French texts. The Italian, Dutch and Spanish epigrams are also provided. The book is preceded by an introduction on Vaenius's emblematical oeuvre, the origins of the "Amorum Emblemata", the author of the English texts (R. Verstegen), the genre of the love emblem and Vaenius's contribution to it and the way his book has been constructed.
