This study covers the causes and the outbreak of the Civil War upto 1642 and concentrates upon the role of parliament, religion, the "British Problem", Charles I and the growing political consciousness during this period. It then goes on to explain the course and consequences of the war between 1642 and 1649, the reasons for parliament's victory and the origins of the radicalism that led to the revolution of 1649. Other areas covered include allegiance in the civil war and the role of the aristocracy.
