The diagnosis of a patient's illness and the subsequent treatment depend upon a detailed history and careful examination. Since the publication of the first edition in 1988, Clinical Examination has become a well-established part of the education of doctors in Australia and overseas, and this completely revised and updated third edition continues the tradition of providing clear and sensible explanations of the origins (both physiological and historical) of physical signs. Sections have been thoroughly reviewed to ensure accuracy and relevance, and many have been extensively rewritten to bring the information up to date with changing clinical practices and the requirements of medical schools and colleges. An important new section on the psychiatric assessment of the patient has been added, and new illustrations and tables are included throughout. The text is aimed primarily at medical students beginning their hospital training, but is also an invaluable resource for physician trainees, trainees in psychiatry and other specialties requiring expertise in physical examination, and for GPs wanting to revise their clinical skills.
