The essays in this volume examine and evaluate responses to immigration pressures in Western countries. Contributors tackle questions concerning the integrity of modern nation-states, the meaning of citizenship and the relevance of sovereignty in an increasingly interdependent world. They also seek to demonstrate how migration flows relate to larger global problems such as unequal economic development, population growth, ethnic strife and environmental degradation.
