Description and Table of Contents
Description
"City Challenge" was created as a response to the recognition that, despite a wide range of central government urban initiatives, at the beginning of the 1990s many areas of towns and cities throughout the country still experienced a range of problems which affected the fabric of their neighbourhoods, their social and economic infrastructure and the personal well-being of their residents. The aims of City Challenges are: top support strategies for defined areas that will attract outside investment; to create a climate of environmental quality and enterprise culture; to support the development and implementation of locally devised and time limited plans for the regeneration of disadvantaged areas; and to promote effective mechanisms for delivery of these plans including effective co-ordination of the resources available to the area. This work offers an interim evaluation.
