Failure of eruption of permanent teeth (tooth impaction) represents a common, but as yet largely unexplored, problem with regard to proper treatment and prevention. This condition affects almost 20% of the population. Thus, the third molar impaction problem alone represents the second most expensive medico-dental surgical problem in the United States.
