Demands to both utilize and preserve the beaches of the world require improved understanding of the underlying dynamics of the coast, as well as better modeling capabilities. To these ends many large, multi-investigator laboratory and field experiments on coastal processes have been conducted. The purpose of the Coastal Dynamics conferences was to bring the experimentalists and modelers together so that experimental design could be improved and the data better utilized. A specific goal of Coastal Dynamics '95, which was held in Gdanaask, Poland, September 4-8, 1995, was to begin to present the large body of work conducted in the former Comecon countries, which has been relatively unknown to the Western nations. This proceedings, ""Coastal Dynamics 95: International Conference on Coastal Research in Terms of Large Scale Experiments"", contains 92 papers presented at this conference. They are organized under 11 topics: wave data analysis, wind-wave modeling, swash dynamics, run-up, and low frequency motion, wave breaking and surf zone turbulence, longshore currents, complex flow patterns, circulation, and groundwater, beach evolution monitoring studies, boundary layers and sediment transport measurements, cross-shore transport and profile evolution, two-dimensional morphology modeling, and large-scale transport processes.
