Description

This proceedings, ""Materials for the New Millennium"", consists of papers presented at the Fourth Materials Engineering Conference held in Washington, DC at the Washington Hilton, November 10-14, 1996 and sponsored by ASCE's Materials Engineering Division. An emphasis of the conference was creating materials and systems for an entirely new generation of safe and durable constructed facilities, thus enabling the nation to meet the rapidly changing demands of society and industry as we enter the new millennium. The conference also focused on renewing our aging public works infrastructure through innovations in repair, rehabilitation and retrofit technologies. The papers cover both research and practice oriented topics such as: high performance materials and advanced composite material; smart materials; durability and aging of materials; corrosion studies; testing and mechanical properties; retrofit and rehabilitation of bridges and buildings; waterfront and marine structures; concrete, aggregates, wood, steel and bituminous materials; recycling of materials; field applications; case studies; and research in progress and research needs.
