Thirty years after it was written, this book remains relevant to an understanding of national liberation movements in the Third World, showing how relationships shift and cultural attitudes change as individuals and communities strive to redefine themselves. Written during the "Fifth Year of the Algerian Revolution", the title of the original French edition, it offers insights into the psychological and social conflicts of an oppressed people and those of their oppressors. The author also wrote "The Wretched of the Earth", "Toward an African Revolution" and "Black Skins, White Masks".
