Closing the Gap is a discussion on how we can prevent premature death and unnecessary disability, from causes ranging from dental disease to suicide. It summarizes a collaborative effort of authorities from various fields to compare the current potential for preventing our most common illnesses with the status of their prevention in reality. The book's target is the gap between the possible and the actual in prevention. The authors have quantified preventable morbidity and mortality associated with particular risk factors or interventions, and have made recommendations for interventions in the light of existing knowledge.
