This text examines traditional Russian policies towards Moldavia in their historic and political contexts. The introduction provides a detailed analysis of the historic evolution of the Moldavians east of the Prut River, and the first section of the book looks at the impact of Gorbachev's "Perestroika" on Soviet Moldavia in the post-communist period. The second section analyzes Russian policies toward Moldavia in the post-communist period and the conclusion examines changes, if any, that occurred in the Russian treatment of Moldavia, pre- and post-communism.
