内容説明

This book provides professional builders and remodelers with a nuts-and-bolts guide to incorporating barrier-free concepts into the design, adaptation, or retrofitting of homes for the elderly and physically disabled. Author Leon A. Frechette divides home modifications into three categories - universal design, adaptable/adjustable, and permanent. In addition to barrier-free floor plans for bathrooms and kitchens, Frechette includes tools and information to help readers calculate stairway risers and treads. Doorway and window dimensions, counter and bathtub heights, and other code-related measurements will be discussed. Frechette also explains how to comply with the Americans with disabilities Act, install intercom and alarm systems, and meet or exceed barrier-free building codes for commercial multi-family housing units.
