内容説明
Unions have always meant 'strife' of one sort or another. This collection of essays confronts a specific type of strife: that around gender politics. This kind of strife in unions is hardly new; it has been at the heart of unionism and the worlds of paid and unpaid work from the earliest days in the industrial revolution. However, gender strife in unions has a new dimension today, since it occurs at a moment when unions themselves are in strife in ways which threaten their meaningful existence. There is a sharpened gender dimension to this strife, since union survival hinges on the recruitment and retention of women members. This book arises from a lively collaboration of activists and scholars from Australia, the US, Canada and the Uk as they explore a rich diversity of views - and look to the future prospects of unions and working women and men.
