内容説明
In terms of gross national product, trade and commerce, the ASEAN (Association of south East Asian nations) region is one of the fastest growing areas in the Asian continent. The countries that belong to this group are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. These countries are rapidly being transformed into urban-industrial societies, even though not long ago, all of them were very much rural-agrarian in nature, except the city-state of Singapore. Significant socio-economic progress has been achieved by these countries. Singapore is already being called one of the "four Dragons" of Asia. Brunei Darussalam has achieved a per capita GNP quite comparable to that of Singapore. If the other countries continue in the present trend in their economic growth, they are expected to join the club of "Newly Industrialised Countries" (NIE) of Asia. This collection consists of six essays on socio-economic growth in the six memeber countries of ASEAN.
