This series provides the opportunity to present the results of recent research projects in areas critical to the future competitiveness of the European aeronautics industry in world markets. It contains technical publications of the complete EU-Aeronautics pilot phase project work, which has been supported under Area 5: Specific Activities Relating to Aeronautics of the BRITE/EURAM Programme within the Second Framework Programme of European Union Activities in the Fields of Research and Technology Development (1989-1992). This volume deals with engine bearing design and lubrication, and the use of thin-film sensors in components. It develops and validates analytical tools for heat generation and lubrication under harsh running conditions, and addresses thin film thermocouples to be used for surface temperature and vibrational strain measurements in the compressors and turbines of aero-engines.
