Contemporary Puerto Rican art presents itself as an art of resistance. Visual and theatre artists attempt to define and defend a Puerto Rican political, social, and cultural discourse disallowed in their colonial context. The artists are Jack and Irene Delano, Antonio Martorell, Jaime Suarez, and Oscar Mestey-Villamil.
