内容説明
By understanding the various theories held about distinct types of psychopathological and criminal behaviour, certain assumptions that may be hindering the care and management of the mentally ill can be tackled. That being the premise of this volume, the author examines the results of a factorial experimental survey, carried out across a range of agencies (students, politicians, police, mental health practitioners, social workers and probation officers). Three underlying components form the basis of the survey and its subsequent study: "sick" role, medical control and social treatment. Significant differences in the perception of the three are found, and analysed with reference to respondents' age, gender, previous experience of the mentally ill and the nature of each mental disorder or type of criminal offence considered. Discussion follows on the theoretical and practical implications these findings may have at both a criminological and clinical level.
