Recognized as a core texbook in occupational therapy, the book "Occupational Therapy: Overcoming Human Performance Deficits" has been revised and renamed for its second edition to become "Occupational Therapy: Enabling Function and Well-Being". The first edition of this text had an impact on education and practice, helping to organize and integrate knowledge while influencing the design of curricula adopted by new programmes in many locations. This new edition is a major reformulation of the Person-Environment Occupational Performance framework, which continues to emphasize a systems-oriented, comprehensive view of functional performance in daily living. The foundations of occupational therapy knowledge are covered in depth, and the principles of identifying, analyzing and managing functional performance problems in a client-centred approach to reflect the important dimensions of the individual, the environment and meaningful occupation across the lifespan. Through the work many expert contributors, the second edition provides an enriched framework with improved focus on the links between theory and practice. The book is designed to lead the reader through the reasoning and decision-making processes necessary for competent practice, emphasizing functional performance as it applies to engagement in daily occupation. Significant additions to the book include a section on case study materials as well as a section on measure of outcome, from clinical, programme evaluation and research standpoints. The new edition also reflects and benefits from a more international perspective on occupational therapy practice. Charles Christiansen and Carolyn Baum have examined the dramatic changes in occupational therapy practice over the past several years to formulate a resource that reflects current knowledge and current thinking.
