Description and Table of Contents

Description

European Dimensions addresses the European Union's desire for a unified approach to education and its content. It explores the origins of the EU's present interest in education and also addresses the tensions that underlie its policies. The author takes issue both with the 'Euro-enthusiasts', who he believes have failed to ask serious questions about the purpose and viability of the EU's policies, and with the 'Euro-sceptics', who he feels underestimate the twin challenges of globalisation and reconstruction that the EU policies attempt to address. This book takes a hard-headed look at the EU's position on education and assesses its impact at national level. It concludes with a call for teachers and trainers to take a serious, but critical, approach to the idea of a European curriculum.
