内容説明

This volume examines the interplay of domestic forces and outside interests which shape the politics of the Middle East. It begins with an examination of the extradordinarily important phenomenon of Islam as a political force within the broader context of development and change. The second important transnational force which crosses the political boundaries of the Middle East are the groups of armed fighters who strike at civilian as well as military targets to capture international support for their political objectives. The third important transnational force within the Middle East is, of course, OPEC. The second part of the volume looks at the impact of outside forces on the mangagement of conflict within the Middle East, the United States, and Soviet Union, Western Europe, Japan and Canada. Janice Gross-Stein is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto and David B. Dewitt is an Associate Professor of Political Science at York University.
