Description

Since 1974, every six years, the American Heart Association has provided Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) guidelines for resuscitating and treating the critically ill patient. These guidelines have been widely incorporated in Paramedic Advanced Life Support protocols. However, for a myriad of acute emergencies (traumatic and non-traumatic) varied Advanced Life Support protocols have been developed and are effectively used each day. This text presents those variations in protocols as gleaned from the 43 participating state/country and city Emergency Medical Service Agencies in the US.
