内容説明

This work contains the proceedings of The Significance of Circulating Peptides in Protein Metabolism workshop on recent research and methodology. Two ideas in particular were discussed: firstly that peptide metabolism is of greater quantitative significance in the whole-body nitrogen economy than has been assumed; and secondly, that provision of dietary nitrogen in peptide form may bring nutritional benefits. While this has been discussed extensively in relation to clinical nutrition, it's significance in relation to ruminant nutrition is novel. The demonstration that extracellular peptide-bound amino acids are preferentially used for protein systhesis by the lactating mammary gland is a concept which raises the possibility of specific manipulation of milk protein synthesis by amino acid targeting. This phenomenon may be applicable to other tissues. The aim of this book is to provide the reader with a complete picture of the significance of circulating peptides, their metabolism and the most up-to-date methods which can be used to investigate this.
