This introductory textbook explains the complexities of sociological approaches to health. It is structured around four themes: sociology, health, illness and health care. The book offers an overview of each subject area, and provides summaries of key topics, enabling the student to build up a sound understanding of the significance of sociology for health care. This edition has been substantially revised and updated by contributors who are teachers in the fields of sociology and nursing. It has been expanded to include more detail on sociological theory, research methods, and new developments in the sociology of health and the organization of health care.
