内容説明
The very name "Cambodia" has a resonance which commands attention, setting-off a whole series of connatations. Most of these are usually connected with the horrors of Pol Pot, the Khmwer Rouge, genocide and the severe US bombing Cambodia suffered during the Vietnam War period. At the beginning of 1998, the country is in the unenviable position of being ruled by an uneasy coalition between the former socialist Cambodian People's Party and the monarchist FUNCINPEC (National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia). Furthermore, this administration constitutes the eighth different form of government since the nation became independent from France in 1953. Fighting between the two sides of the coalition spoiled-over into to phsyical violence on the streets of Phnom Penh in July 1997, and continued in the northwest of the country. Also, the Kmer Rouge remains in control of some areas, and as many as nine million landmines have left land unworkable whilst killing and maiming indiscriminantly. This text is a selective, annotated, multi-disciplinary bibliography covering a range of subjects in relation to the political and social status of Combodia.
Particularly focused on are the areas which have historically received the most attention from writers and researchers - travellers' accounts, archaelogy and the country's ancient artistic wonders, history and politics. There is also coverage of Cambodia in Western litarature.
