内容説明

In this work, Brian E.C. Schottlaender has drawn together the key authorities on cataloguing with AACR2R. They examine the issues critical to cataloguers, including: the appropriateness of AACR2R for serials and archival materials; AACR2R and authority control; and online cataloguing and searches. New technologies used in cataloguing, publishing and distribution have affected the very nature and practice of cataloguing. As with many technical innovations, they have made things both easier and more complicated: expediting the cataloguing process while at the same time raising concerns over such issues as the bibliographic control of archives and serials, and the description of digital objects. Schottlaender, ALA's representative to the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR, has culled expert opinions on these issues and many more. As cataloguing rules are continually revised to respond to changing needs, ""The Future of the Descriptive Cataloguing Rules"" should help cataloguers prepare themselves for what lies ahead for AACR2.
