Description
This is a study of the work of Helen Garner. Grounded in ideas from feminist literary theory, the book examines Garner's engagement with feminism in her life and work. It maps the making of Garner's literary reputation from the beginning of her career, placing her writing in the wide context of recent Australian literary history. It also includes discussion of all her fiction and devotes a separate chapter to an account of the 1995 controversy around "The First Stone".
